About Mission
The Chapel’s long history of representing Jesus Christ with the gospel and good deeds outside its walls is consistent with its values and goals today. Our intent is to be personally, locally-nationally and globally missional.
Personally Missional
The church gathers every Sunday for worship and then is scattered the rest of the week throughout our communities. We go to where God has strategically placed each believer to represent Christ where he or she lives, works and plays. It is there that the message of Christ is heard and seen by neighbors, co-workers and family members.
Locally Missional
The Chapel is glad to link arms with many high quality local and national ministries that are meeting so many real human needs in many ways.
Urban Ministries is known best for its relationship with and adoption of inner-city Leggett Elementary School. What’s been learned regarding school adoption is available to other churches wanting to do the same. The Chapel, through the leadership of Focus Campus Group, has a ministry to the Akron area homeless called The Word for the Street that meets every Monday night.
Chapel Community Service (CCS), born out of the Katrina Hurricane disaster ministry, was given the tagline, “externally focused, blessing our communities.” CCS mobilizes volunteers to do just that all over our communities.
International Student Ministry has been a wonderful support to many University of Akron students. These students are far from home and their culture, and it can be hard to acclimate. This ministry is “glocal” in nature, where you have a chance to connect with another culture right here in Northeast Ohio.
Globally Missional
The Chapel jumps cultures and oceans to take God’s truth and love all over the planet. Missionaries, many from our own church, teach and evangelize, build hospitals and schools, care and give food. Present in so many global efforts, Christ-centered, holistic ministry is especially profiled in the Fresh Passion ministries of Mozambique and India.
