The world shouts the glory of God. We see it; we doubt it when it’s dark or we’re too tired. Truth is glorious; it’s a two-way mirror reflecting God’s ideas and revealing my motives. To really see God’s glory this Christmas, look at Christ. He came into our world and longs to enter yours.
Nicknames are cool, they sort of give you the essence or personality or uniqueness of somebody: Red, Mad Dog, The Big Cheese. Well maybe during the holidays when all the familiar habits come flooding back, the nicknames of Jesus could provide you a new spark: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. They filmed the movie The Avengers in Cleveland last year, and Batman is back in full dark force, and I hear we’ll be seeing more of the man of steel, Superman real soon. Superheroes, strong guys saving the world but always with a meek side: Bruce Wayne, Clark Kent. It wouldn’t be inaccurate to describe the star of Christmas as a superhero coming to rescue the world from darkness and hate; and coming with a meek side “…for unto us a child is born…”.
