Urban Ministries

Inner City Ministry has always been
at the heart of The Chapel
The Chapel has always been an urban church with a mission to the city of Akron (and now somewhat in Canton with the start of the Green Campus). That mission has taken on many different forms and flavors since 1934, but always with the Great Commission and Great Commandment at the heart of it all. The Chapel has its own Urban Ministry office with special emphasis on the adoption of nearby inner-city schools, most notably Leggett Elementary School. But, The Chapel’s ministry extends to partnering with excellent para-church urban ministries that exist within the city, together making a difference right where the church was begun, right where it still is.

Winter Coats$20
Backpacks/School Supplies$10
Coats are given to children in the fall and throughout the winter. A good coat will get them through a cold Ohio winter. Having the tools necessary to support a child’s education is important to move people out of poverty. Backpacks with school supplies encourage children to do well in school.

Formula$10
Gift Card Aldi's$10
Supporting mothers in their decision to keep their babies does not stop after the children are born. Baby formula is the number one item stolen from stores in the inner-city. Hunger is still an issue in parts of the United States. Many families must choose between paying rent and buying food, and senior citizens are taking care of their grandchildren on a limited income. A food gift card can make a big difference during difficult times.

Gift Card Payless Shoes$20
Underwear and Socks$5
For some children, shoes are not a luxury but a daily necessity. In poverty, the children are the ones who suffer the most, because most resources are geared for adults. It’s hard to imagine that children do not have adequate supplies of underwear and socks, but it’s true!
