Adults

The Chapel is about people. Our passion is to introduce people to Jesus Christ because we know their lives will never be the same. Our church is about people who serve, love, and encourage one another. People who worship together. People who push and challenge one another to a deeper relationship with God.

We offer many ways to meet new friends and grow in faith in Community and Small Groups. We also have specific ministries that focus on women, men, singles, and college students.

Community Groups

Campus Groups and Home Groups are mid-sized communities between 15 and 90 people who meet to learn, extend care, and serve together.

There are 60 groups on campus that assemble by stage of life and age. We have over 20 home groups that meet in homes throughout the area.

Jump in and check out a few Community Groups to find one that is a good fit for you. Visit our Community Groups page.  Click here to “Get Connected” with a Community Group. By answering the questions, we can guide you toward some group options.

Midweek Opportunities

Great learning and growing activities, discussions, and classes with varying topics for men and women of all ages in friendly group settings. All Midweek Opportunities occur on Wednesday evenings at both Akron and Green campuses, 6:30–8:00pm. Child care, children’s and youth programming is also available. Visit our midweek page.

Abundant Living 55+

Abundant Living is for men and women age 55+. It’s specifically designed to aid you in making life-phase transitions. We are committed to contributing to your growth, happiness, and success as together we develop ways to live out the great command and the great commission. Visit our Abundant Living page.

Women’s Ministries

Women’s Ministries wants to see women inspired in worship, included in community, and involved in mission. We know that sometimes women need time away to be together to laugh, to share hurts, and to study God’s Word. We provide weekly opportunities for worship and Bible study.

We invite you to give one of our coming events a try! Visit our Women’s Ministry page.

Men’s Ministries

In Men’s Ministries, it is our goal to equip, empower, and inspire men to passionately follow Jesus Christ. In wim we find our identity and our mission. We have lots of ways that you can get involved in our events including The Arena, a great place for discussion and small-group Bible study; and Prayer Partners, a time of prayer with Paul Sartarelli and the campus pastors. We invite you to join us as we forge Men’s Ministry. Visit our Men’s Ministry page and our Men’s Ministries website. If you’d like to get involved, contact Dale Saylor.

Chapel Riders

Chapel Riders is a community group based around our shared affinityof riding motorcycles and faith in Christ. We offer rideopportunities for all levels of ability as well as serve together on a regular basis. We meet year round as a community to support one another and grow together in Christ through fellowship, study, and service opportunities.

Visit our website or contact Chapel Riders.

Military Ministry

Have a friend or family member currently serving in the military? We would love to add him or her to our list for prayer and encouragement. View our brochure. Submit contact information to Joey.

College: Campus Focus

Our goal at Campus Focus is to help people discover how amazing life with God really is! We think that God has an adventure for you that is just waiting to be discovered. We think that college-aged students are not just the leaders of the future, but that they can be leaders right now! Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

It is our goal to help you recover, or maybe discover, that kind of faith! The kind of faith that sets your heart on fire and gets you pumped about waking up in the morning and leaving your mark in a broken world.

The Gathering

Meets on Sundays at 7:00pm.

Click on the image for info.

Small Groups

We strongly believe that you were not designed to follow God alone. We think that everyone needs a safe place where they can ask questions and wrestle through the things of this life—a community they can call home. Groups are predominantly student led and meet at various times and locations.

Check out our Campus Focus website

Real Life (RL)

This group is made up of singles mostly in their 30s and 40s. Men’s Ministry

Ministry2Men

m2m_logo_250

The Chapel’s M2M mission is: “To equip men to build authentic relationships with Jesus Christ, love and lead their families, serve the Body of Christ, and to be effective witnesses in their world.”

Life is filled with battles that no man can win on his own. Men need friends, teammates, and fellow soldiers. We urge men to be authentic, intentional, united, and focused! We encourage guys to use The Arena, Christian Leadership Concepts (CLC), and small-group bible studies as tools to carry out this task.

The Arena

The Arena is our gateway for Ministry2Men. It is committed to moving men of The Chapel along the path of biblical maturity. We want men to be purposeful brothers, loving husbands, and nurturing fathers.arena

It helps men inspire their church, influence their homes and make an impact where they are positioned. We use small-group discussion on masculinity and the Bible to inspire, equip, and empower men to passionately follow Jesus Christ.

Arena offers sessions at the Akron and Green campuses from September through November and January through May:

  • Wednesday mornings, 6:30-7:30am, Fellowship Hall, Akron
  • Wednesday mornings, 6:30-7:30am, Conference Room, Green
  • Wednesday evenings, 6:30-8:00pm, Atrium 123, Green

Wadsworth Men’s Studies

  • Tuesday mornings, 6:30am, McDonald’s in Wadsworth. Contact Tom Mountjoy at 330.620.3610 .
  • Thursday evenings, 7:00-9:00pm, Room 207. An informal, yet in-depth conversational study. Call 330.315.5421.

Christian Leadership Concepts

christian_leadership_logo_250

Are you connected with men that are gutsy enough to go beyond the surface and offer encouragement regarding issues of knowing God, personal character, marriage, and family? Do you have friends who are willing to work with you on the things that really matter? Are you man enough to listen?

Christian Leadership Concepts is a national program that equips men to lead for Christ in their homes, church, community, and the marketplace. Throughout the United States there are thousands of men from over forty cities that have completed this unique program. CLC helps men grow deeper in their faith while developing long lasting friendships with other men.

We have many men, ranging in age from 20 to over 65 that are involved in CLC groups at both campuses of The Chapel. CLC helps men that are interested in taking their faith to a new level while developing long lasting “band of brother” relationships with other guys.

For additional information: Contact Joe at 330.315.5909 or check the CLC website.

Labor of Love Run

The Labor of Love Run is held every year on Labor Day at our Akron Campus and features a 1-mile fun run as well as 5-mile individual and relay races. The most significant impact, however, is that proceeds benefit ICU Mobile and Pregnancy Support Center of Stark County. Both nonprofit pregnancy support centers are committed to providing women, men, and teens with pregnancy-related help, information, and caring support when they face an unplanned or crisis pregnancy. These fine pro-life organizations provide all services free of charge and with confidentiality. For more information about the race, click here.

Weddings at The Chapel

Congratulations on your decision to be married! The vows you take on your wedding day are not only between husband and wife, but also between the two of you and the Lord. Therefore, we view your wedding as a sacred ceremony to be planned with reverence, dignity, honor, and respect.

In order to be married at The Chapel, one or both of the individuals being married must be a member or regular attendee. Those interested in scheduling a wedding at The Chapel should contact our wedding coordinator, Chris Isler at 330.315. 5530.

Premarital Counseling

The importance of preparing for your marriage cannot be overstated. Therefore, pre-marriage counseling is a requirement and most couples will complete our 8-week class (unless counseling is arranged elsewhere). The class meets on successive Monday nights from 7:00–8:30pm at the Akron Campus and is offered in four sessions throughout the year.

If you choose to have your wedding elsewhere, we’d still like to support your marriage in any way we can. Please consider participating in the pre-marriage class or any of our community groups for engaged and newly married couples that meet at either campus. If you’re looking for a church home, why not visit us some Sunday?

We look forward to serving you. May the Lord bless your marriage!

Home Groups

Home Groups are growing groups of people who learn, care, and serve together.  The groups meet various nights of the week, in members’ homes, every other week and are a mix of all ages, couples and singles.

God and the Trinity

January 11 – February 8 | Fellowship Hall
The word “Trinity” is nowhere found in the Bible. However, the doctrine of the Trinity is one of the most important doctrines of the Christian Faith. To study the Trinity gives us great insight into the primary question that is at the center of all of our seeking: What is God like himself? We will learn that in himself God exists in the persons of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, yet he is one God. This is a Chapel U class, click here or on the image for more classes and info.

Until Christ Is Formed in You: A Study in Personal Spiritual Formation

March 7 – April 18 | Fellowship Hall
This class aims to be a thorough and biblical examination of the practices and disciplines through which we seek to develop and support the spiritually-transforming work of the Holy Spirit in and through our lives and relationships so that we will progressively become more conformed to the image of Christ. The goal of spiritual formation is more than personal growth, but also healthy and Christ-effecting relationships and ministry. This is a Chapel U class, click here or on the image for more classes and info.

Youth and Culture

January 11 – February 8 | Berean Room South
Teenagers are among the most coveted demographics in popular culture. They have the most expendable income, are the most technologically savvy, and may possibly be the easiest to influence. Join this interactive course as we identify major cultural factors that are impacting today’s youth. Anyone is welcome, but this class is aimed toward parents of teenagers. Labor of Love Run

History

Since it began in 1985, the Labor of Love Run has been known for two things. One is its status as a first-class race for the running community in Northeast Ohio. Now featuring a 5-mile run for relay teams and individuals, as well as a 1-mile fun run/walk, there is something for everyone in the family.

And speaking of family, that focus is the second thing this race is known for. Each year the proceeds from the Labor of Love go towards local pro-family organizations that assist those who are facing crisis or unplanned pregnancies. Add in our annual Family Celebration with inflatables, face painting, food and entertainment and there is no better place for your whole family to be on Labor Day morning. We hope to see you there!

Benefits

      Bags of Hope

In Mozambican language, Kulangutela translates to “hope,” and that is what the knitted bag project provides for the women in this desperately poor country. The bags were designed for the purpose of carrying vegetables and for the women to learn a trade skill.

An original pattern was devised, materials were obtained, and knitting needles were handmade by the congregation. The team from The Chapel included five women. These five women were taught knitting skills that they in turn passed on to one hundred village women. In one week, the village women learned to knit despite the language barrier. Six months later a new team took more materials, dye, and beads. The village women had not forgotten their knitting skills and were able to create unique bags that they can now sell.

Some women chose to keep and use their bags, while others chose to sell theirs to the team from The Chapel. Proceeds from the sale of these bags in the U.S. will be reinvested in the project to provide materials and income for the villages. Ultimately the goal is for the people of Chaimite and Koka Misava to undertake the operation of this business as a source of income for their villages.

Our prayer is that through this project, hearts will be opened to the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Pollock Award for Biography awarded by Beeson Divinity School.  Called a “biography of uncommon power,” Bonhoeffer has appeared on numerous Best of the Year lists, and has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Publishers Weekly, The New Republic, Harper’s, Kirkus, NPR, FoxNews, C-SPAN’s Book TV, and First Things.

And in between are those who don’t play guitar, yet find solace in his beautifully penned lyrics and memorable melodies.

Phil’s solo career has spanned more than 30 years, and has included over 50 solo albums, both vocal and instrumental, as well as 8 releases with his band, Glass Harp. One of the most sought after studio guitarists, Phil also continues to sell out concerts all over the United States, with his ever-changing style, ranging from rock-and-roll to fully orchestrated instrumental compositions.

      Defining Moments
      9:00am | Akron Campus

We attend a Community Group at The Chapel because we love the people in it! There is a strong sense of community in our group, which makes it a support network that is sometimes difficult to find outside the church. We support each other through tough times, we encourage each other in our walk with Christ, and we have a lot of fun together. This sense of love and service is driven by Christ and constantly drives us closer to Him. Our group is a living testimony of Proverbs 27:17, which states: “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”

I am very thankful for the small groups at The Chapel. We moved here seven years ago and attended church one year and met no one. We joined an ABF and God worked through that connection to get our daughter a summer intern position, which led to her employment after graduation. In small-group Bible studies, you can delve more deeply into the Bible and learn life lessons from others. You can share your concerns and know God is uplifting you through their prayers. I think that small groups are the foundation of building a stronger relationship with Christ.

      Ladies Group
      10:40am | Green Campus

Our ladies group is designed for women of all ages who worship alone for whatever reason. Since the Green campus began, our group has formed friendships founded on honesty and the unconditional love modeled by our Lord Jesus Christ. I have been encouraged and sharpened by the insights and the interaction of these wonderful ladies. Sometimes we cry together, but more often, we laugh together. We would gladly open our arms to include you!

      Lighthouse
      10:40am | Akron Campus

My ABF community has been my family for over 21 years. I was divorced, and raising four children on my own, working three jobs sometimes. My ABF helped with yard work, provided repairs and/or replacements for appliances, Camp Carl weeks for the children, food and meals, gift certificates, and most importantly, prayer. They are the hands and feet of Jesus to me. They gladly helped bear the burdens of a single mom and showed me the true meaning of God’s unconditional love in action. I am not one to rely on another for help, but God has shown me His provision through other people.

      Lighthouse
      10:40am | Akron Campus

Lighthouse brings the intimacy of close fellowship to a large-church setting. Through activities and outside times of fellowship, my wife and I have built lasting friendships with other Christians who we know pray for us and are there to support us. Our weekly times in God’s Word and the ensuing discussions have deepened our understanding of Scripture. Lighthouse has also opened the door to service for us as we participate monthly at Haven of Rest, contribute to the The Chapel’s food closet, and the class’s Corinthian Fund that supports children around the world and other service projects. God has blessed us in ways only Heaven will reveal through the people and leadership of the Lighthouse Community Group.

      Fellowheirs II |10:40am | Akron

My wife, Carol, and I love our ABF and the people in it. We love to learn more about Christ and the Bible through Christian fellowship and outstanding Bible teaching each Sunday morning.

We care for each other, pray for each other, and socialize together. This small group allows us to know personally more people in a large church congregation. The outreach projects help us to understand our mission to follow Christ and spread His gospel throughout the world.

A welcome is extended to any who would like to join our community group.

At His Feet | Home Group, Green
      Every other Tuesday, 6:30pm

We love our Community Group because we are open to discussing whatever seems to come up. We can explore what the Bible says about diverse topics. For example, we have discussed topics like prayer, sin, our speech, the prayer of salvation, and true repentance. We would not have been able to obtain such knowledge and grow in our faith without being part of this Community Group. Our leaders are very caring and knowledgeable. We are very appreciative of them and what they do for the group.

Building Faith and Family | Wadsworth 9:00am

I am in a Community Group because it is important to be connected throughout the week with the believers you’re sharing biblical knowledge and conversation with on Sunday. They are there to help as you’re trying to live out the stuff you’re learning on Sunday.

When you’re part of a community, you’ve got someone to call on when you need help with something practical, like roofing, or when you want to celebrate with somebody, or when you need someone to hold you to your word and God’s Word.

      Running to Win
      10:40am | Green Campus

I teach a Community Group because I want to instill in others a love for learning the Word of God and other good books. Author David Platt says, “We all have blind spots– areas of our lives that need to be uncovered so we can see correctly and adjust our lives accordingly.”

If we are not consistently feeding on the Word of God and great books, how can we hope to identify our own blind spots? Our discussions on Sundays stimulate our thinking and encourage the possible applications of the material we are tackling that week. I think that Community Groups are a must for every believer to continue maturing as a follower of Christ.

      Dan Lebo

      Joyful Noise
      10:40am | Green Campus

I am in a Community Group for a number of reasons. We can focus on good, sound Bible study time and have fellowship together. Those are accurate in my case and sound like the “right answers,” I suppose. Beyond that, however, The Chapel becomes a much smaller church when you join a Community Group.

For me, the best part over the past year has been getting to know the people better and appreciating them far more. You don’t really know people until you’ve spent time with them. The greater the repertoire of activities you can all collectively partake of in a Community Group, the better your group will be and the closer you will all be drawn together.

My Community Group is saturated with proven life experiences, expertise and also humor. You can learn a lot from one another in a Community Group. The person who seems gritty may actually be an amazing overcomer of life’s obstacles, once you get to really know them. The old adage “don’t judge a book by its cover” is exponentially true in a Community Group setting. There are some rare, priceless jewels to reap from one another if you are willing to take part and rub shoulders with one another. I am a far deeper person and a far more compassionate person as a direct result of having been in Community Groups and ABFs for the past 20 years. I cannot imagine going to The Chapel or really any local church without being connected to a smaller group for deeper fellowship.

I have seldom laughed more in my life than I have the past two years in Joyful Noise. They have blessed my proverbial socks off. While myself and a few very dedicated others have led this Community Group, I have had my own spirit fed dozens and dozens of times by the humor, candor, humility and maturity of those I serve.
