The Chapel and Haiti

Pray for Haiti!Thank you for your amazing generosity. In the past three Sundays, you have given over $100,000 for relief in Haiti. Every dollar will go toward easing the suffering of the Haitians.

We are considering other ways to give aid.

One way is help the many, many who have been disabled by the earthquake!  (they say the need for prosthetics in Haiti is now huge!)

And here is how you can help.

On Saturday, March 6, bring to Green Campus new and gently-used:

  • canes, crutches, walkers, and wheelchairs.
  • Only those four items (nothing else, please).
  • Only on that date, please.
  • Search your attic, look under the bed, ask your friends and relatives.
  • Just a month away, so start collecting now and then bring items on that day.
  • Pick up a flier explaining the collection items and process at any welcome center.
  • Contact our Disability Ministry.

Thank you very, very much for your gifts of kindness.

God's Love in Haiti

Pray for Haiti

Praising God in the midst of devastation and suffering. Haitians are exemplifying this day to day as they emerge from the horrific earthquake.

Our on-the-ground partner, World Relief, provides updates on the remarkable work of the global church and the material and spiritual response. Even in the midst of a tough economy, churches continue to give generously and sacrificially. Chapel attenders, thank you for providing $100,112!

One Haitian pastor said, "When you provide for someone, it will touch their heart. Then they will see the love of God in you."

As with any disaster, survivor's guilt can plague one's mind. Pastor Michael Jean-Baptiste had this thought, "More than 150,000 people died in this disaster. Why am I not one of them?"

Pastor Jean-Baptiste, who works with local churches in Port-au-Prince, sensed God's answer, " I have given you the opportunity to help your brothers and sisters now, so that they will know I have not left them alone." God has promised to be "close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." (Psalm 34:18) Pastor Jean-Baptiste has seen the opportunity to show God's love to the many broken hearts in Haiti.

World Relief's Stephan Bauman had this to say about hope for the Haitians, "In the midst of the feel of death, in the midst of the smell of death, Jesus is there," he shared. "Jesus the Resurrector, Jesus is there."
